Credit card fraud can be a federal offense. If the local D.A. wants to make an example out of this kid then he can go federal. If that happens the amount frauded makes no difference. $410 or $4 million, fed has mandatory sentencing guidelines. This can be very serious!
In all probability, assuming he/she has no prior criminal activity (especially not fraud) he/she will be slapped around a bit and sent on his/her way. However there remains a chance he may have ruined his life for sure...
